About Lightness Review

Lightness Review is a chess analysis and training website made by BemBuPlol.

Its main purpose is simple: to give everyone access to useful tools for reviewing and learning from their chess games, completely free.

Chess improvement shouldn't be locked behind a subscription. Lightness Review was created around that idea, giving players the tools they need to understand their games, learn from their mistakes, and improve.

That's where our slogan comes from:

Privacy

Your review history and statistics are stored only in your browser and are never uploaded. Game analysis runs on your device. Data leaves your device only when you choose an action that needs it: importing a game (the username or game link is sent to Chess.com or Lichess), sharing a review (the review is saved on our server), or reporting a classification error (the game's PGN is attached to the report). Importing games passes through our servers but they aren't stored. You can export or delete your history at any time from the Stats page.

Works offline

After your first visit, game review and Coach games run entirely in your browser, so they keep working without a connection. You can also install Lightness Review as an app on your device. Importing games from Chess.com or Lichess, sharing reviews and reporting a move classification need an internet connection. If you're on iPhone, use Share → Add to Home Screen.
